Of Books and Covers

Since Firmament will become my front-burner project once Geiger Counter is out, I’ve been thinking about how to present it as a physical product. Electronic is easy, but a book is harder, since I’m imagining you’ll need a poster-size map of the local stars.

Luckily, McSweeney’s has already tried something crazy like this:

Issue #13, the all-comics issue with layout by Chris Ware, featured a dust jacket that was made of a poster-size sheet of paper that was folded up and wrapped around the foil-stamped and immaculately designed hardcover. I’m sure McSweeney’s went through a lot of headaches to find somebody who would print that ridiculous book, but I bet Justin and I could pull off something similar if we were truly motivated…

  1. Man, if you don’t do this, I’m totally stealing that idea. So you better do it! :D

  2. I’ll consider myself warned. If you do it before me, though, I may have to strangle you, since you’re already going to beat me to publishing an Avatar game :)

  3. Well, it’ll be a tangential Avatar game at most. Yours is way more legit. :)
